Our Story
Six Decades of Building Something Real
Pacific Homes began with one builder, one valley, and a straightforward belief: that a home should be crafted around the people who live in it. Since 1959, that belief has shaped every floor plan, every truss, and every prefabricated package we have delivered across BC, Canada, the USA, and beyond. This is how it happened.

The Pacific Homes Story
Every home we build carries six decades of craftsmanship behind it. Here is how a small building supply store on Vancouver Island grew into one of British Columbia's most respected custom prefab home builders.
Where It All Began
Ken McKinnon founded Pacific Builders' Supplies Ltd. in the Cowichan Valley, selling quality building materials to the local community. It was a modest start - but the commitment to doing things right was there from day one.
Taking to the Road
The purchase of Pacific Builders' Supplies' first delivery truck opened the door to the whole of Vancouver Island. What had been a local shop could now reach builders and homeowners coast to coast across the Island.
Room to Grow
Growing demand pushed Pacific Builders' Supplies into a larger location. The expansion reflected a region that was building - and a company ready to build alongside it.
Pacific Truss Is Born
Ken founded Pacific Truss, making it the oldest truss manufacturer on Vancouver Island - a milestone that cemented the company's reputation for precision structural work that would later define Pacific Homes' prefab process.
Pacific Homes Takes Shape
Ken founded Pacific Homes and developed a custom home building process unlike anything else in the industry. Combining true custom design with prefab precision, this approach set the standard the company carries forward to this day.
First Package Delivered
The first Pacific Homes prefabricated home package was built and delivered on site in Terrace, BC - proof that the model worked and that quality homes could be engineered here and built anywhere.
Computing the Future
Pacific Building Supplies Ltd. became one of only four building supply stores in Canada to adopt a computer system for engineering and drafting in the truss division. That technology was later woven into the home building process itself - raising accuracy and speed across every project.
Crossing the Pacific
Pacific Homes shipped its first home package across the Pacific Ocean to Japan, launching an international market that continues today. In the years that followed, the company's network grew to reach clients across multiple countries.

The Year Everything Changed
In 1963, Ken McKinnon founded Pacific Truss, making it the oldest truss manufacturer on Vancouver Island. What began as a single bold idea in the Cowichan Valley quickly grew into something the industry had not seen before.
That decision to engineer and fabricate structural components in-house set a standard of precision and craftsmanship that has shaped how Pacific Homes builds to this day. It was not just a new product line. It was the foundation of a philosophy: that quality homes start with quality components, built by people who care.
